How to Get a Good Property Settlement

By 4 April 2013Family Law

The financial ramifications following the breakdown of a relationship are significant, it is therefore beneficial for parties to try and achieve the best possible outcome in their property settlement negotiations.

In order to achieve this, Solicitor Rebecca Harding, outlines the importance of actively participating in all the processes that are available to separating parties. Processes such as disclosure, where parties seek and produce certain information, such as financial documents which enables more informed decisions in relation to the circumstances to be made.

Alternative Dispute Resolution, like mediation or conciliation is a further process that can assist parties to solve problems relating to their property settlement matter. These tools are encouraged by solicitors and mediators as a means that allow parties to maintain some sense of control in their matter; this is also beneficial should the need for litigation arise.
