Amnesty International Condemns Western Australian Government

Amnesty International has expressed its concern over more than 100 children being held in adult detention in Western Australia.

Following a riot in the Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Facility in January, more than 100 juvenile detainees were moved temporarily to Hakea prison.

Whilst the decision to move the children has been deemed legitimate, it would appear that these youths will not return to juvenile detention until late August.

Amnesty International points out that some of those children will have been in adult detention for close to a year, if the August deadline remains.
